The Spirit, The Law & The Gospel.

Are these all contrary to each other?

THE GOSPELTHE LAW

2/2/20258 min read

The Law is often equated to bondage and it's subsequently taught that the Spirit frees one from the bondage of the Law but is this true? To pose the question more accurately is that claim according to the Doctrine of Christ?
In the scriptures we see that Yahweh delivered Israel from the house of bondage, which was Egypt.
Exodus 20:2 I am Yahweh your Elohim, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
He then gave His people His Law, the question is, would a loving Elohim take His people out of the house bondage and give them a Law that is so unattainable that no one could obey it and then attach curses for not obeying it? In essence delivering them from one cruel task master to to another. The below passage comes directly from Yahweh, it's Him speaking.
Deut 30:10 If thou shalt hearken unto THE VOICE OF YAHWEH your Elohim, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto Yahweh your Elohim with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
Deut 30:11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, IT IS NOT hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
Deut 30:12 IT IS NOT in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deut 30:13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deut 30:14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
To teach and believe that it is impossible to obey the Law that Yahweh gave through Moses is to teach and believe something that is in direct contradiction to what the Almighty spoke through both Moses and His Son.
Matt 5:19 "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
If one takes a moment to think this through it becomes evident that just the idea of giving somebody a commandment to do something while placing a reward in front of it and a curse behind it, knowing full well that the impossibility of the task ensures cursing, would be an extremely cruel and deceptive lie. That said, who should one place their faith in? It's either the teaching that comes through Yahweh and His Son or some pastor, "church father", or religious organization.
Not only is the Law not bondage but it is Liberty according to Psalm 119.
Psalm 119:44 So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.
Psalm 119:45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.
If there is any doubt just read this entire psalm which is basically a love letter to Yahweh and His Law.
Psalm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.
Psalm 119:30 I have chosen THE WAY OF TRUTH: thy judgments have I laid before me.
False teachers will always try and pull people away from the instruction of the Father. They will distract, obscure, twist and even cast away the Word which He has directly spoken to command His people. There are gifts that He has given to His people, that is, those that hear and obey Him. His Law, His Son and His Spirit. He made His ways known unto Moses by giving Him His Law.
Psalm 103:7 He made known HIS WAYS unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
He then gave the promise of His Spirit that would ensure that we walk in those ways.
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and A NEW SPIRIT will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put MY SPIRIT WITH YOU, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and YE SHALL KEEP MY JUDGEMENTS AND DO THEM.
His Spirit is given by way of His promise and it is not against the Law of Yahweh. To the contrary, the promise itself tells us that as it is His Spirit that causes His people to walk in His ways. Paul wrote about this to the Galatian assembly.
Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of Elohim? ELOHIM FORBID: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
The law is perfect but we are not and therefore we are in need of justification which only comes through belief in His Son.
Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Yahshua the Messiah might be given to them that believe.
Galatians 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
This is where the slight of hand comes by the enemy. The saving faith comes by believing Yashua the Messiah NOT a church, religious organization, teacher, pastor or "church" father.
In summary He made His ways known to Moses through the giving of His Law. He then gave the promis of His Spirit which causes His people to walk in His ways. Lastly He sent His Son who is THE WAY to show and teach that way in clarity so that no man should deceive those that believe His Testimony.
John 14:6 Yahshua saith unto him, "I am THE WAY, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Below is a chart comparing attributes of the Law, the Gospel and the Spirit.

The above chart and scripture references shows the continuity between all three. It is the enemy and his false doctrines and religious teachers that run interference against and obscure the Truth. Paul wrote to the Galatian assembly concerning false doctrines that were pulling people away from the Truth at that time.
Gal 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Yahshua the Messiah that they might bring us into bondage:
Note that He calls these people FALSE brethren and then states that their purpose is to bring them into bondage. The whole point of Paul's letter to the Galatians is to bring them back to the obedience of Yahshua.
Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should NOT obey the truth, before whose eyes Yahshua the Messiah hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
Paul is clearly calling the Galatians foolish for being bewitched an not obeying the Truth, that truth being Yahshua the Messiah.
The below passage from Paul's letter is often taken to preach against the Law but to do so one would have to believe that Christ was against the Law which is clear lie.
Gal 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until CHRIST BE FORMED IN YOU,
Gal 4:20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
For Christ to be in a person, that person has to walk in obedience to Him and walk as He walked. This is very obvious when one chooses to believe His Gospel.
Gal 4:21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, DO YOU NOT HEAR THE LAW?
Paul, after rebuking them for not obeying Christ, poses the question... "Do you not hear the Law?". By way of the question Paul is saying that they should be hearing the Law. When reading Paul's letters, 2 things should always be kept in mind... Peters warning (2nd Peter 3:15-17) and Yahwehs warning (Deut 18:18-19). Paul then continues.
Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a free woman.
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born AFTER THE FLESH; but he of the freewoman was BY PROMISE.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for THESE ARE THE TWO COVENANTS; the one from the mount Sinai, which GENDERETH to bondage, which is Agar.
The allegory is about the 2 different covenants, NOT THE LAW. He did not say that the first covenant was bondage but rather he said that it Gendereth (gives birth) to bondage. Why does Paul say that the first covenant gendereth to bondage? It seems evident that it is because the promise of the Spirit is to those that are partakers of the New Covenant not the Old. Note that in verse 23 he compares the one born of the bondwoman as being born after the flesh. Why? Well because the promise was doubted and Sarah gave her servant to Abraham in order to have a child. Paul then goes on to say that the one born of Sarah (the free woman) was born of promise.
Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal 4:26 but Jeruslam which is above is free, WHICH IS THE MOTHER OF US ALL.
Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are THE CHILDREN OF PROMISE.
Gal 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was BORN AFTER THE SPIRIT, even so it is now.
Gal 4:30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
Gal 4:31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, BUT OF THE FREE.
Paul is saying that he and the people he is writing to are children of the promise, born after the Spirit not after the flesh. Is the Spirit against the Law? No it is not which is why Paul prefaces what he writes in chapter 4 with the below scripture.
Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of Elohim? ELOHIM FORBID: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
Paul then goes on to detail the contrast between the flesh and the Spirit in chapter 5.
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye SHALL NOT fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
It is the Flesh that is contrary to the Spirit not the Law. This is evident in the passage below as well.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things SHALL NOT inherit the kingdom of Elohim.
All of the above referenced works are of the flesh and are contrary to both the Spirit and the Law. The fruits of the Spirit are complete opposites to the works of the flesh and are in perfect compliance with the Law.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
They that are Messiah's have not crucified the Law... They have crucified the Flesh.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
There is only one way to know the Truth and that is to place ones faith in Yashua the Messiah and the Testimony that he gave.
